Hi. Thanks in advance to all the helpful people out here.

I'm running ESXi 4.0. In order to run Windows 8 I apparently need ESXi 5.1 (I'm reading 5.0 isn't enough). I just downloaded VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.0.0.update01-623860.x86_64.iso.

1. Have I downloaded the right file?

2. My understanding is that after I burn this to CD I can boot off of the CD and do an inplace upgrade with no risk to my existing VM's, right?

3. Can someone point me to the latest VSphere Client? I assume my client is out of date.

Thank you.

you can update using the iso

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2032757

the iso should be vmware-visor-installer-5.1.xxx    if you want 5.1

backup your vms even if you are going to preserve your vmfs store

you can get the client by going to https://YOURHOST and clicking download vsphere client when you are done with upgrading
