But... 
When I click the "Start Download Manager" nothing happens.
When I click Download Manually I get returned to the top of the page where it shows a message...
"You registered for this product. Your downloads are now available below."
If I click "View My Downloads" it shows it as having been downloaded, but I have yet to find it and I never got asked where to save it etc.
By the way, I installed the 5.0.1 Player, then just to test it, I installed win2000 from the original CD and it is all running sort of OK, so it sounds like this PC fits within the "Installation requirements" you pointed me to. I have now deleted that Virtual Disk in readiness for ransferring over from the other PC.
