I'm seeing similar issue.  This only occurs on vsphere web client 5.1 but not in 5.5 or 6.0.  Any hint on why this is occurring?  Removing the plugin seems to resolve the issue.  Why would the plugin interfere with vsphere 5.1?

Here is the log:

S.M.A.R.T. Temperature is very high even when the drive is cool to the touch

The temperature I am getting from two new hard drives do not make sense.  Immediately after starting a server that has been off all night, I get '176' as my drive temperature, then it climbs to the low 180s.  Even if it is in fahrenheit, that's over 77 degrees celsius.  Output for one of the drives is below.  Am I reading something incorrectly?

esxcli storage core device smart get -d t10.ATA_____TOSHIBA_DT01ACA300_________________________________16SUPMJKS

Parameter                     Value  Threshold  Worst

----------------------------  -----  ---------  -----

Health Status                 OK     N/A        N/A

Media Wearout Indicator       N/A    N/A        N/A

Write Error Count             N/A    N/A        N/A

The drives are cool to the touch even when the Drive Temperatures is in the 180s.  I'm not too worried, but I'd sure like to understand it.

Thanks!

VMWare Workstation Mouse Frustrations

$

Hi,

I've paid for yearly upgrades of WS for almost a decade, and I've finally had enough of these bugs.

Using Ubuntu 14 host.  Running guests in Full Screen.

Bugs:

  1. Most of the time, mouse clicks near the edge of the guest windows are seen as clicks to the host.  The workaround is to enable Exclusive Mode, but this makes switching between guests a real pain.
  2. Moving the mouse to the top of the screen should reveal the VMWare menu bar.  It often doesn't.  Sometimes when it does, a click on the menu bar is seen as a click to the host.

Hopefully someone has a solution to these issues, or VMWare staff will report these bugs and get them fixed.

boot your vm from the iso as a cdrom. then you can mount your vm hardisk and copy your files off.

btw, ubuntu 16.04 just got released today.

Dear Porto,

While we export the vDS, will it take the IP configuration along with the port groups?

Or do we want to set the new IP address on the vDS while importing?

Thanks,

Hi Balan,

IF DCUI service is stopped status you should see a pop up stating " Direct console access has been disabled by the administrator". You should not get "Access Denied", I assume if you get "access denied" its the lock down mode "strict" option is not allowing you to login and basically gives access denied while you try to login with "Root".

- if you are not able to ping / SSH / connect through vSphere client directly to host.

- if you are not able to login through ESXi shell

- If you are not able to login to DCUI through BMC.

You are basically total locked out your ESXI. Re-install is the only option forward.

Thanks,

Chaary

No option to scan a host in Vcenter 5.5?

We are currently running VCenter 5.5. We wanted to patch/update our ESXI hosts. However once right clicked on one of the hosts the option to scan disappeared. We checked our permissions and we still have admin rights in Vcenter.

How/why would that option disappear? Do we need to install VUM? If we do install it will it automatically update Vcenter to 6,0?

Thanks in advance

Ok I set up a security server and connect to that externally now, and I still get the same thing in the logs it is trying to connect directly to the windows 7 desktop internal IP on port 4172 ?

Re: I think someone disabled ballooning at the host level...

HI,

Ballooning is something done through drivers in VMware tools at virtual machine level. First check if the affected VMs has VMware tools installed, as ballooning cannot work without it.

- If you feel someone has intentionally done it, then refer below KB to check for places to see if the ballooning is disabled or not.

VMware KB: Disabling the balloon driver

Thanks,

Chaary

@Check whether that particular machine is part of a vSphere Replication. You could see to the replication Monitor and check the Status.

Re: How to create vNICs with single two-port 10 GbE network adapter

AFAIK, by installing you will not see 8NICs. That need to be configured through some manager software and during the configuraiton you should be able to tell the speed of individual cards. HP Flex10 is a good  example, where one 10GIG card can be broken down into multiple network card .

To enable the balloon driver in a virtual machine:

  1. Using the vSphere Client, connect to the vCenter Server or the ESXi/ESX host where the virtual machine resides.
  2. Shut down the virtual machine if it is powered on.
  3. SSH to the ESXi/ESX host. For more information, see Connecting to an ESX host using an SSH client (1019852).
  4. Change directory to the datastore where the virtual machine's configuration file resides.
  5. Back up the virtual machine's configuration file.
  6. Edit the virtual machine's configuration file (virtual_machine_name.vmx) and remove this entry:

    sched.mem.maxmemctl = "0"

  7. Save and close the file.
  8. Power on the virtual machine.

OR

To enable the Balloon driver of the particular virtual machine.Browse towards the virtual Machine Configuration file that .VMX file and remove the below entry

sched.mem.maxmemctl = “0”

Save and Exit from editing. The memory balloon driver is enabled. (See the attachement)

Hi Daustin,

There is a bug with VDP, where it stops working if there are other plugins installed with jersey jar of different version than it uses. To make sure its the same reason causing this issue, can you please point me to vmware support ticket.

Re: Break down of 5 min in vRops

It can't do 5-min intervals (you are correct), but I'd have a bigger concern with that beyond the fact that the view can't do it (technically). I'm not sure how valuable that 5-min interval would be, and here's why - the data is only collected every 5 minutes. So essentially you'd want to be looking at individual data points, one data point per column. As you look through rows (objects), each object would be showing data points with a different time shift, as every data point is not collected at the 'same' specific timestamp, rather it depends when the collection ran against that vCenter (data source). In a since data collection, time stamps may have a 30-60-120 second range they may fall in to (depending on the collection duration). What I'm getting at is, I understand your request, however the use case may be prone to giving you data that has a time shift to it and each row will be a different 'time'. At high intervals (1hr plus) this is negligible, however if you looked at individual data points you'd see some discrepancy.

Re: API for condition wait

Hi chrklee.

I found the solution for the same.

the problem is while handling the interrupt , we are waiting to complete a task . But according  to document we can't wait while handling the interrupt. So we used vmk_HelperCreate api to avoid this problem.

I have another doubt , I implemented task management command for storage adapter , but I don't  know how to test. can you please help me for the same.

Thanks in advanced.
